Also speaking highly of Torey is his former coach Ty McGregor. " Torey is the epitome of a Student-Athlete, but more important is the fact the he is even a better person! His parents have obviously done a tremendous job of bringing him up the 'right way'." Coach McGregor also added, "As a coach, you just don't go out and get yourself a replacement for Torey. Men
The Rochester College Men's Basketball team returned home disappointed, but proud, after a National Runners-up finish at the 2009 USCAA National Championships. The week began well for the Warriors as they received two honors before the tournament began. Junior Adrian Schaffer was named to the 2009 USCAA All-America team and Senior Robert Fragoso was named to the 2009 USCAA All-America Honorable Mention team. Schaffer and Fragoso received their awards at the tournament banquet on Tuesday (March 3rd) night.
The first game of the tournament put the Warriors up against IU-Northwest. Schaffer would lead the Warriors with 25 points, and sophomore Stephan Henning chipped in 15 points in the win on their way to a 70-57 victory.
Game #2 of the tournament would see the #3 seeded Warriors take on Defending National Champions and #2 seeded Oakwood University. The Warriors would come away with a thrilling 58-56 overtime victory on a Stephan Henning last second shot from 18 feet. Henning led the Warriors the whole game finishing with a team high 17 points. The upset victory would put the Warriors in the Championship game against the #1 seed Talledega College Tornadoes.
The Warriors knew going into the Championship game that they would have to make the game ugly against the more athletic Tornadoes. The game plan was to slow down Talledega by playing a packed in 2-3 Zone. The Warriors were able to hold the high scoring Tornadoes to just 45 points in the game, but were only able to muster 31 points of their own. The game was closer than the 14 point final spread showed. With 8 minutes to go the Warriors closed to within 4 points at 28-24, but Talledega then went on a quick 5-0 run to make the score 33-24. The Warriors, who were not willing to go out without a fight, again closed the gap to 6 points with just over 3 minutes to go with the ball. Unable to convert, the warriors would fall behind as the final score finished at 45-31.
Senior Robert Fragoso was named to the all tournament team as he finished his career with the Warriors along with the rest of the seniors, Tom Webb, Steve McCune, Brian Tsacoumangos, and Steve Stuecher. The Warriors finished with a record of 25-7 and a Runners-up Trophy. The Warriors will have to wait until next season to once again play for a National Championship. Post season workouts await the returning players in the coming weeks.

Warriors survive on the road at Andrews University
The Warriors traveled to Berrien Springs, MI to take on Andrews University to close out the regular season on Tuesday night. The last game of the regular season for the warriors proved to be the toughest test in the second half of the season.
When the game started, it looked as though the Warriors were going to win convincingly as they held Andrews to just 13 points in the first 15 minutes of the 1st half. With 5 minutes left in the half the host team went on a 15-4 run to cut the warrior lead to just 10 points at the half 38-28. The Warriors were able to build the lead with hot shooting from the perimeter as they would make 7 of 11 3-pointers in the first half.
The second half would see a dog fight as the warriors were not able to pull away from the feisty Cardinals. The Cardinals were able to tie the game with 40 seconds left in the game on a lay-up from Sean Thorne. The Warriors would come down on what would be their last possession to see Grant Brown drain the game winning 3 pointer with just 6 seconds left on the warrior shot clock. Andrews, who were out of timeouts, came down and were unable to get a good look at the basket as time would expire.
The Warriors were led by Adrian Schaffer's 25 points and 7 rebounds, followed by Grant Brown who scored 12 points all from behind the 3-point arc. Stephan Henning would finish with 11 points and 4 assists. The Warriors finish the regular season with a 23-6 record marking the 8th consecutive season with 20 or more wins.

Warriors end "Home" season with a win over Mustangs
On Saturday the Warriors would host their last home game of the season in a tough USCAA match up with the Mustangs of Marygrove College. Earlier in the season the Warriors traveled to Detroit and came home with a convincing 75-50 win. With the USCAA National Tournament on the horizon, the Warriors knew they would have to make a statement that they are poised and ready for the challenge of the tournament. The Mustangs were coming to make a statement of their own as the two teams could face one another again in the tournament.
Early on in the game the two teams would exchange baskets before the warriors would take control of the game. In the first meeting Adrian Schaffer dominated with 29 points, and would be the focus of the mustang defense this time around. While the Mustangs keyed on Schaffer, Steve McCune would take advantage of the situation by shooting 9 for 9 and scoring 20 points in the first half alone. With that the Warriors were able to take a comfortable lead into the half with a 43-29 advantage.
Coming out for the second half the Warriors knew that they would get the Mustangs best effort. The Mustangs would come out on an 10-2 run to start the second half before they forced a timeout by the Warriors. The timeout proved to be the wake up call the warriors needed as they would build a lead by as much as 28 points mid-way through the half. As the mustangs paid more attention to McCune who finished with 31 points on the game, it was Sophomore Grant Brown that would provide a spark in the second half as he would nail 3 3-pointers in rout to a 17 point performance off the bench. Adrian Schaffer would finish with his 3rd double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The win raises the Warrior season record to 22-6 while the Mustangs fell to 12-13. Next up for the Warriors will be a game at a much improved Andrews University. The last meeting with Andrews, the Warriors came out with a hard earned 68-46 win. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 pm and will mark the end of the regular season before the National Tournament.

Warriors tame the Wolves 80-71
The Rochester College Men's basketball team hosted the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolves Monday afternoon and were able to come away with an 80-71 win. The win raised the warriors record to 21-6 on the season, while the wolves would drop to 5-21.
The first half was an intense battle that would not allow either team to take a commanding lead until late, when the warriors were able to build a 12 lead going into halftime 39-27. The visiting wolves shot a better percentage (46.4%) than the warriors (45.7%). The difference was that the warriors forced the wolves into 11 first half turnovers resulting in 14 points for Rochester.
The second half would see the warriors shoot even worse from the field (37.5%) to the wolves (48.6%), but again, it was the warriors defense that would keep the wolves at Bay. The 12 point lead at the half proved to be a big enough cushion for the warriors as the wolves would them 44-41. The Warriors were led by Adrian Schaffer who scored 24 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, followed by Stephan Henning who poured in 18 points on 6 of 11 shooting. Senior Steve McCune would contribute 12 points and Freshman Dramell Hogan would score 7 points and a game high 10 rebounds.
